Ricard Sole is an ICREA research professor at the Department of Life Sciences of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, External Professor of the Santa Fe Institute (New Mexico, USA), Senior member of the NASA-associate Center of Astrobiology (CAB; Madrid) and head of the Complex Systems Lab here in Barcelona. He completed a 5-year degree in physics and another 5-year degree in Biology at the University of Barcelona and received my PhD in Physics in 1991 with a thesis on Spatiotemporal chaos and criticality in complex biosystems. He's working on complex systems theory, with particular interest in systems biology, evolution of RNA viruses, evolutionary ecology, collective intelligence, evolution of complex networks, cellular computation, origins of life, language, cancer and developmental biology. Some part of this work is done in collaboration with researchers of the Santa Fe Institute were he ususally interacts with the night crew
